Museum of Modern Art will host an exhibition MEGAPOLIS – a young curator Farid Mammadzada’s debut project.
The project MEGAPOLIS affects one of the painful points of modernity – the topic of traumatic attitude of contemporary megapolis and a person.
The exhibition project MEGAPOLIS is based on the works of modern Azerbaijani artists – Mamed Mustafayev and Niyaz Najafov. The specific access to the decision of exhibition space combines the works of two authors into unified humanity call in order to fight against depression and imaginary hopelessness which happen in a city. The above mentioned authors works are divided into two perceptions of the given issue: into macro and micro levels. Also MEGAPOLIS affects both professional and social perceptions of given idea, perceptions happening outside and inside enormous megapolises reaching for the sky and lay their foundation slabs on conscious and soul of human race.
The exhibition concept was born as a result of a master-class “Curatorial and mediator practices in contemporary art” hold by Honored Artist of Azerbaijan and curator Sabina Shikhlinskaya, which took place in March 2013 in Baku within the educational program of nonprofit organization YARAT – Space for Contemporary Art.
Curatorial idea of three master class participants were deemed worthy of realization and will be presented on the basis of the Museum during 2014.
MEGAPOLIS exhibition continues a series of projects of young curators and all the paintings are part of the collection of Museum of Modern Art.
The young author Aykhan Khalilov’s movie-interview with artists Niyaz Najafov and Mamed Mustafayev also took part in MEGAPOLIS project.
